Sinema fc scored 2 brilliant goals against a fancied Biafra fc to reach the quarter finals of the annual Kothbiro football tournament. The more than exciting match saw Biafra lose their first match in the tournament but unfortunately at the dreaded knock-out stage.
The match started on Biafra’s favor urged on by their loud cheering fans and their group stage 100% record. They dribbled and passed around the ball neatly but unfortunately most of it was contained in the half of their field.
Sinema were the first to really go for blood as Kejay Odhiambo missed a very easy opportunity in the 18’ with his volley beating the keeper but just zoomed a few inches wide.
Sinema pushed forward and the pressure paid off in the 25’ as a Biafra defender handled the ball inside the box. Lenox Ogutu stepped up and his shot just managed to squeeze under the keeper for their first goal.
Engo Bundu came very close for Sinema in the 33’ but his shot was punched out by the keeper. The result stood as the teams went on the break.
Biafra tried coming back to the match but Sinema’s solid defense thwarted their efforts as their trademark passes and dribbling were cut short and stopped.
20 minutes into the half and Biafra got a corner kick which was taken beautifully and met by Shadrack who cleanly headed it in.
The party was short lived for Biafra as their defender Omar Kanga clumsly miscalculated a shot and ended up controlling it for Sinema’s Steve Okoku who neatly converted it.
Sinema advance to the quarter finals of the SportPesa sponsored edition where they will meet Piuretto in a battle of steel. The match will be played on Friday 28 at 3pm.
