Makongeni Sports Association, MASA, beat Umeme Bees by a solitary goal to win the hotly contested 3rd place play-off at the ongoing Kothbiro Football tournament.
The score line was a repeat of the group stages results when the two teams clashed giving MASA the ultimate bragging rights. The solitary goal was scored in the 79’ through a free kick by Norman Ogolla.
Umeme Bees were fielding a relatively weaker team due to the absence of three key players including Clyde Senaji, Mohammed Kilume and Evans Mieno but MASA couldn’t capitalize in the uneventful first half.
The second half saw the Bees wasteful of chances as MASA built up on the counter attacks. MASA’s Neville picked up a good pass from Joakim Omollo and as he went for a shot Umeme’s Martin Ongori caught him with a high boot at the very edge of the penalty box.
Norman Ogolla converted the resultant free kick and Umeme couldn’t stage a comeback and with that MASA took the 3rd place honours and seventy five thousand in cash. Umeme Bees will pick up fifty thousand shillings all courtesy of SportPesa.
The finals pitting Kingstone fc against Allain Jua Kali will kick off on Saturday 3, at 3pm. The winner will lift the grand trophy courtesy of Pamojah Movement and walk away with three hundred thousand shillings while the runner-up will pick one hundred thousand courtesy of SportPesa. Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonkoh is expected to top up the winners as per tradition.
