Kingstone fc has finally made it to the finals of the lucrative annual Kothbiro football tournament after defeating the highly fancied darling of the crowd, Umeme Bees by a solitary goal.

The highly anticipated match lived to its billing apart from the fact that many fans were rooting for the Bees to make it their first finals in two decades.  The proceedings started in high tempo with the Bees dictating pace with neat passes and clever football. They were ready to sting and they went for an attack but all their efforts were thwarted in the dusty field. Mike Oduor found himself with the keeper and he intelligently chipped the ball over the keeper but the ball went just above the post.

Clyde Senaji of Umeme Bees

Mike was on the prowl again and his two free-kicks rattled the post but the net was elusive for the Bees on the other side a calculative Kingstone was happy enough to play defensive and barely had a shot on goal.

The second half started in earnest and the Bees swarmed the Carnivores from Shauri Moyo post with thirst for a goal. Senaji was denied by the post in the 55’ and 5 minutes later only the outstretched hands of the Kingstone keeper kept away his shot.

As the over-excited fans bayed for a Bees goal, the quiet Kingstone corner was silently praying for divine intervention and the gods of football once again connived to rob the better hardworking team. With previously no serious attempt on goal in the match, Kingstone the highest ranked team in the remaining four, pulled a dramatic goal in the 63’. The carnivores from Burma got a free-kick on the edge of the goal but the first shot was blocked by the Bees keeper, as he leaped to his feet, a rebound shot came straight to goal but was blocked by a defender a third rebound shot was so fast for everyone and it landed squarely on the back of the net.

The Bees pulled out all the available ammunition in their arsenal and in the 89’ a Senaji hard shot was only saved by the face of the goal-keeper.  The goal by Crispinus Onyango was enough to secure the Carnivores a spot in next Saturday’s final. They wait for the winner between Allin Jua Kali and MASA whose match will be played on Sunday 28th at 3pm at the Ziwani Sports grounds.
