A1000 Street from Kaloleni successfully defended and won their third consecutive Annual Kothbiro football tournament title and with that setting a record in the 38 year old tournament. The 2014 and 2015 champions made it third in a row after beating Pumwani All Stars by a solitary goal scored in the 48’ by David ‘Kangi’ Mwangi.
Kangi rose above Pumwani defense and his team mates to connect with a powerful header through a set piece delivered accurately by Robinson Kamura from the left flank. Earlier in the exciting and entertaining match watched by thousands of fans at the Historical Ziwani Sports Grounds, Pumwani’s Tyrone Odhiambo’s superb shot was punched off by A1000’s keeper Peter Odhiambo .Pumwani’s keeper Rakula Salenko also had to stretch extra to deny Duke Abuya in the 32’.
Amongst the guests were Sportpesa’s Andrew Sikwe, Nairobi’s Governor Evans Kidero, KPL’s Frank Okoth, Tusker fc’s Charles Obiny, Bernard ‘Oti Makaa’ Otieno, Eston Cargo Links Silas Sulwey and Humphrey Mieno who handed out the MVP’s awards.
A1000 Street pocked three hundred thousand and tournament trophy whilst Pumwani received a hundred thousand shillings. The third placed team Beirut fc which was also recognized as the season’s best team received 50 thousand and humbled Nyoi walked away with 25 thousand shillings.
